A boy I had a crush on in high school sang this at church. That was the start of my love for boys with guitars. Hah! Seriously though, this song describes the Christmas story and is beautifully written.
Dave Matthews Band - The Christmas Song
She was his girl; he was her boyfriend She be his wife; take him as her husband A surprise on the way, any day, any day One healthy little giggling dribbling baby boy The wise men came three made their way To shower him with love While he lay in the hay Shower him with love love love Love love love Love love is all around Not very much of his childhood was known Kept his mother Mary worried Always out on his own He met another Mary for a reasonable fee, less than Reputable as known to be
His heart was full of love love love Love love love Love love is all around When Jesus Christ was nailed to the his tree Said “oh, Daddy-o I can see how it all soon will be I came to she’d a little light on this darkening scene Instead I fear I spill the blood of my children all around”
The blood of our children all around The blood of our children all around The blood of our children all around So the story goes, so I’m told The people he knew were Less than golden hearted Gamblers and robbers Drinkers and jokers, all soul searchers Like you and me
Rumors insisited he soon would be For his deviations Taken into custody by the authorities Less informed than he. Drinkers and jokers. all soul searchers Searching for love love love Love love love Love love is all around
Preparations were made For his celebration day He said “eat this bread and think of it as me Drink this wine and dream it will be The blood of our children all around The blood of our children all around” The blood of our children all around
Father up above, why in all this anger have you fill Me up with love Fill me love love love Love love love Love love And the blood of our children all around
Day 28 - A song that’s an instrumental.
Ok, I am glad I decided not to pick the Dixie Chicks in the last category because this instrumental by them is INCREDIBLE. They are one of my favorite bands. They put on such a great live show as well.
Dixie Chicks - Lil’ Jack Slade
Day 27 - Your favorite country song.
This was my absolute favorite song when I was 9 years old and I still have a soft spot for it, even though I don’t really believe in God anymore.
Garth Brooks - Unanswered Prayers
Alternative- Dixie Chicks- Long Way Around
Day 26 - Your favorite rock song.
It’s one of my favorite to crank up in the car and sing along.
MWK - Call to Arms.
Day 25 - A song that inspires you.
The lyrics in this song are amazing.
Bob Dylan - Blowin’ in the Wind.
How many roads must a man walk down Before you call him a man ? How many seas must a white dove sail Before she sleeps in the sand ? Yes, how many times must the cannon balls fly Before they’re forever banned ? The answer my friend is blowin’ in the wind The answer is blowin’ in the wind.
Yes, how many years can a mountain exist Before it’s washed to the sea ? Yes, how many years can some people exist Before they’re allowed to be free ? Yes, how many times can a man turn his head Pretending he just doesn’t see ? The answer my friend is blowin’ in the wind The answer is blowin’ in the wind.
Yes, how many times must a man look up Before he can see the sky ? Yes, how many ears must one man have Before he can hear people cry ? Yes, how many deaths will it take till he knows That too many people have died ? The answer my friend is blowin’ in the wind The answer is blowin’ in the wind.
Day 24 - A great cover song.
This is probably one of my all-time favorite cover songs (especially the Pre-DC era). Sometimes I forget there was a version before Cake. I believe that is a true sign of a good cover. Also, Cake is one of my all-time favorite bands.
Cake - I will Survive
At first I was afraid. I was petrified. I kept thinking I could never live Without you by my side. But then I spent so many nights Just thinking how you’d done me wrong. I grew strong. I learned how to get along. And so you’re back from outer space. I just walked in to find you here Without that look upon your face. I should have changed my fucking lock. I would have made you leave your key If I’d have known for just one second You’d be back to bother me.
Oh now go. Walk out the door. Just turn around now. You’re not welcome anymore. Weren’t you the one Who tried to break me with desire? Did you think I’d crumble? Did you think I’d lay down and die? Oh not I.
I will survive. As long as I know how to love I know I’ll be alive. I’ve got all my life to live. I’ve got all my love to give. I will survive. I will survive.
It took all the strength I had Just not to fall apart. I’m trying hard to mend The pieces of my broken heart. And I spent oh so many nights Just feeling sorry for myself. I used to cry. But now I hold my head up high.
And you’ll see me with somebody new. I’m not that stupid little person Still in love with you. And so you thought you’d just drop by, And you expect me to be free. But now I’m saving all my lovin’ For someone who’s lovin’ me.
Day 23 - A song to play outdoors.
This song just transports me to my junior high years. *sigh*
Fresh Prince & Dj Jazzy Jeff - Summertime
Day 22 - A song about food
A song about Jelly Vaseline.
The Flaming Lips - She Don’t Use Jelly
I know a girl who thinks of ghosts She’ll make ya breakfast She’ll make ya toast She don’t use butter She don’t use cheese She don’t use jelly Or any of these She uses vaseline(x3).
I know a guy who goes to shows When he’s at home and he blows his nose He don’t use tissues or his sleeve He don’t use napkins or any of these He uses magazines(x5).
I know a girl who reminds me of Cher (reminds me of Cher). She’s always changing (she’s always changing). The color of her hair (color of her hair). She don’t use nothing That ya buy at the store She likes her hair to be real orange She uses tangerines(x6)
Day 21 - A song to get drunk to.
This is a fun song and I listened to it at a lot of parties in college. Also, it will get stuck in your head for hours days.
Modest Mouse- Float On
Day 20 - A song from the first record (CD) you ever bought.
Yes, I am not ashamed to admit this was probably my favorite CD when I was 11 years old. This and “CrazySexyCool’ by TLC. Funny thing is, this song came up on my ipod (shuffle) a few days ago and it is actually has a relevant message in my life right now, but this video is INCREDIBLY cheesy! :)
